Xiaomi Redmi 8 series: Who’s who & best deals

Redmi 8A

The entry model in the Redmi 8 family is the Redmi 8A, a budget phone with a 6.2in HD IPS screen and a Snapdragon 439 processor. It comes with 2-, 3- or 4GB of RAM and 32- or 64GB of expandable storage, each with a 5,000mAh battery and 12Mp (rear)/8Mp (front) cameras. It’s not yet available in Europe, though its predecessor costs £109.

Redmi 8

Next up is the Redmi 8, which adds a 2Mp depth sensor to the primary camera setup. There’s no 2GB RAM option here, only 3- or 4GB RAM with either 32- or 64GB of storage, each expandable through microSD. All other specs mirror those of Redmi 8A. Prices start at €139 in Europe.

Redmi Note 8

For the Redmi Note 8 Xiaomi fits a slightly larger and higher-resolution 6.3in Full-HD IPS display, and bumps up the processor to the Snapdragon 665. This phone has a lower-capacity 4,000mAh battery, but goes all out on the cameras with a 48Mp sensor the highlight of the Note 8’s quad-lens primary camera. Various storage and memory options are available, with up to 128GB storage and 6GB of RAM possible. Available only in China and India it retails at 999 yuan/Rs. 9,999.

Redmi Note 8T

Redmi Note 8T, the first of the line to arrive in the UK, is in essence the Redmi Note 8 but with the addition of NFC and 18W wired charging. Everything else is the same. Redmi Note 8 Pro

The top-end model is Redmi Note 8 Pro. This one has a larger screen still, at 6.53in, and uses a MediaTek Helio G90T octa-core processor, which it pairs with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Only the Pro has a 64Mp sensor as part of its quad-lens primary camera, while a 20Mp lens features at the front for selfies. At 4,500mAh the battery is slap in the middle of the range in terms of capacity. Prices start at €249 in Europe.
