Air fryers are having a bit of a moment as a straightforward, self-contained, (somewhat) health-conscious cooking appliance. They’ll give your food a crispy coating with no need to add oil. But evidently someone had the idea that this simple cooker could be improved with some wireless add-ons.
Smart functionality
The T21 Smart Air Fryer is an app-compatible appliance. Its smart features work via the free to download and use ProscenicHome app. The big change from ordinary air fryer usage is that the smart functionality will allow you to schedule cooking. This means you can use your air fryer much like you might a slow cooker: add ingredients earlier on in the day and have your food ready to eat when you get home. Or not. Because there’s a safety issue. Remote functionality is really best suited to appliances that definitely can’t start a fire in your kitchen while you’re sitting on the train on your homeward commute. As it would be unwise to switch on an air fryer when you’re away from home, the remote functionality is really limited to using your phone as a remote control. That, or scheduling a meal that leaves you free to host guests, relax or get on with some work when you’re in the room next door. But for even simpler hands-free cooking, you don’t have to use the app at all. The T21 Smart Air Fryer has Alexa and Google Home compatibility, so you can start your dinner with a voice command. “Alexa, cook my chips,” you could say, suavely, while your dinner companions swoon. You can also access online recipes via the app.
Product specifications and features
To be fair to the T21, it has pretty much everything you’d want in an air fryer. It has an LED touchscreen and a 5.5 litre capacity, which is comfortably family size – that’s enough space to cook up to seven portions of food, depending on what you’re making. It also has a dishwasher safe, Teflon-coated food basket. It has scheduling, pre-heating and keep warm functions and, like the best digital cooking appliances, pre-sets. In this case, there are eight pre-sets for cooking different popular food options, like fries, pizza and fish.
